Prominent New York business leader Michael T. Masin has agreed to contribute $6 million to promote academic excellence at UCLA School of Law. The gift, which will include merit scholarships, represents the largest commitment by a living alumnus to the school and is part of UCLA’s recently announced $100-million law school endowment campaign.
“In both the business and legal world, Mike Masin is known for his commitment to excellence, high standards and integrity, “ said Dean Michael H. Schill. “His generous gift will enable us to continue to build excellence in the students we attract, in the influential faculty we hire and retain and in the programs we offer. ”
“UCLA Law School was instrumental to my career and my success,” said Masin. “My family and I are pleased to help provide others with the same opportunities that I had.”
In recognition of the gift, to be made by Masin, his wife Joanne and the Masin Family Foundation, UCLA will establish the Michael T. Masin Scholars Program, which will recognize the 12 highest performing students after the first year of law school. “Mike Masin is a superb role model for our students and it is only fitting that we use his name to recognize excellence in our students,” said Schill. “I know that our students will be proud to be identified with him as Michael T. Masin Scholars.”
