Roberts on Con Law Scholarship

Like most law schools, UCLA has a plethora of constitutional law scholars and we always seem to be trying to hire more. But maybe we need a rethink. Gordon Smith quotes a snippet from a Q&A session at BYU law school with Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts:

“If the case involves a statute, I start by reading the statute”—and I happened to be wondering about the influence of legal scholarship on his views. Just then he said, “I don’t keep up with constitutional scholarship.”

I bet my con law colleagues are going to love that one.
